Studio view, creation of the Sculptural tiled stove, in 2001

Built free-hand, in a self-supporting structure made of plastic clay. I begin by making the latticing on the inside of the tiles, and attach slabs of clay on top of it. The form grows layer by layer. When the entire form is done and slipped it is cut down into tiles, and is then dried, bisque fired, glazed and fired. Every tile becomes unique and has its own specific place in the creation.

The tiled stove is 2.36 m high, 0.9 m broad and 0.6 m deep. The tiled platform is 1.20 m x 1.05 m.
